The Call of Summer
Like the first fleeting rays of sunlight in the morning, so summer is just upon the horizon.
'Well, we'll roll down
Dirty old windows
Sing with our eyes closed
And belt out the high notes
And we'll go down
To the beach where the wind blows
We'll throw off our old clothes
And we'll dance with our eyes closed
Coz' I see love
I see love when I close my eyes
And I see love
I see love when I close my eyes
Ya, we'll watch the stars glow
And the flames burn the wood slow
Playing games with our shadows
Till all four of our eyes closed
Darling, we'll sleep close
With no blankets or pillows
Like the wind in the willows
We'll dream with our eyes closed
Coz' I see love
I see love when I close my eyes
And I see love
I see love when I close my eyes......
And I feel love
In spite of myself
I feel love
To frighten myself
I feel love
And I feel nothing else......
Vultures and black crows
Perching on signposts
Circling like ghosts
So we'll just keep our eyes closed...'
Dirty old windows

To the beach where the wind blows

The Next Morning
There's a very particular feeling, the morning after a big party. It's something about how the sunlight touches the scene of the night before, how the small spills and minor messes now come into full view, the kitchen being full of unwashed dishes and the backyard strewn with empty cans.
Yet the very essence of morning-after-party is simply sitting, in your pajamas, with a cup of tea and ignoring all the mess around you. That is currently what I am doing.
It was my brother Jonno's 16th birthday party last night. It's weird enough for your little brother to be growing up, but even weirder when his friends look older than you are! (although this might have been due to the freakishly high stilettos and buttocks-clinging dresses).
Anyway, today looks like being a warm one, so I might struggle through the spilled popcorn and half-eaten pies to take a swim in our pool. Love the next morning! J
